Free Agent Frenzy

It's that time of year again. The time of year where sox fans pretend our team's spending habits are so immensely different then our Bronx enemies, only to be cruelly reminded that that is not the case anymore. It looks to be the same this year. With a talent-rich free agent market, coupled with the Sox well documented collapse, the Sox will surely look to be competitive in free agency this year.

The problem is that no big name free agent out there would fill a necessary need. Reyes would be nice at shortstop, but the Sox already exercised Scutaro's option. Plus, with the Mets start shortstop's injury history, I'm not sure the Sox want that baggage. Pujols is clearly out of the question, along with Fielder. The only one that would make sense would be CJ Wilson, and I've always believed he was overrated anyway. The last thing the Sox need is another pitcher who can't find the strike zone. (cough cough dice-k, bard, etc)

While the Sox would be tempted to spend some cash on a right fielder, they should really hold off. Both Reddick and Kalish deserve shots at being an everyday player at that position, and the sox could manage without spending the big bucks on someone else. So leave the big-contract, terribly thought out free agent singings to the Yankees; the Sox will be just fine.
