Matheny to Manage Cardinals

Not Terry Francona. I would have mentioned that, but I'm surprised to see that tidbit is the subhead or lead in nearly every link.

The Cardinals plan to name former catcher Mike Matheny, who spent five years with the club from 2000-2004, as their new manager, the team announced on Sunday. Matheny will be formally introduced as the club's skipper at a news conference at Busch Stadium on Monday at 11 a.m. CT.
See what the Sox have done? Francona could have had a perfectly respectable retirement, but now he needs to come back to prove something. The man won two rings in Boston! This is unjust.

The next headline will be Francona Doesn't Get Cubs Job. The headline should be Francona Joins Broadcast Booth.

But we digress, and this is unfair to Matheny, who takes over for the most respected manager in the game. Good luck sir, and may we see you in October.
