Doubront shines in bid for 5th starter spot

After a somewhat shaky first outing in which he gave up two runs over innnings, while surrenedering three hits and walking three, Felix Doubront went out and and absolutely shoved against the Yankees last night. Going four scoreless innings, striking out three.

The Yankees forced Doubront to go deep in to counts in order to get a better gauge of the young lefty. Felix ended up throwing 75 pitches which for a Grapefruit League game this early in the season is a whole helluva lot but it didn't seem to bother the kid very much. After the game he was quoted as saying,
"I faced pretty good hitters; I just couldn't make them chase," Doubront said. "I feel very good about today. I showed what I've got and showed and the pitching coach that I've got something."
With Vicente Padilla pitching well also the 5th starter spot may be starting to gain some faces. It will be nice if the Sox can widdle it down to just a couple guys over the next week or so. Nothing like some good old fashioned competition.
