My Nominee for the Next Retiree

You've got to hand it to the Sox this time. They handled Tim Wakefield and Jason Varitek with delicacy. They clearly never wanted to sign them, but they had the decency to offer them minor league deals. (Some players would be insulted by that -- but it seems, from all reactions, that it was a gesture that was appreciated.)

But now, there's another staple of Red Sox Nation that needs to go. (And no offense meant to the great careers of Tek and Wake -- I am not making a direct comparison.)

The home opener is April 13. It will be exciting to see who's there to start.

But one thing should not be there. I think you know what I'm talking about.

"Sweet Caroline" has to go.
