Sox to pursue Cuban outfield Jorge Soler

From Alex Speir/WEEI:
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- According to a major league source, the Red Sox do plan to pursue Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler, a 20-year-old who is awaiting approval by Major League Baseball to become an international amateur free agent. Though still considered very raw, Soler has tremendous power, with the potential to hit 30-plus homers a season in the majors if he proves capable of fulfilling his potential. That said, the Sox -- like most of the baseball industry -- expect that the Cubs are likely to win the bidding for Soler. In some ways, Soler is emerging as the subject of the last unrestricted bidding war surrounding an international amateur free agent.

Well this would be something huh? If the Red Sox could get a guy with this kind of potential into their system which has a proven pedigree then this kid could really be something special. Of course teams could be caught up in the hype machine that tends to sometimes follow players from Cuba who have little to no proven experience and may or may not be older than they say. (See Jose Contreras)

That being said - look at the body on this kid! Lean with a good frame and plenty of room to fill in. He looks exactly like Vlad Guerrero did at that age. You can see the potential dripping off of him.

How can you see that from just a picture, Pete? Simple, Simon. Just look at that bat twirl motion. Clear sign the kid is going to be a stud. Plus if he is anything like this Yoenis Cespedes video then the Red Sox should tell him that Theo Epstein dresses in the guerilla suit on a regular basis and chases his players around the stadium making monkey noises. Nobody in their right mind would want to sign with the Cubs then.
