Sox Pound 4 HR's, Hang On For 11-6 Win Over Oakland

One minute your starter is cruising with a 10-run lead, the next thing you know, you're 4 pitchers deep into your bullpen trying to hang on for dear life. David Ortiz (pictured) slammed 2 home runs, and Darnell McDonald and Mike Aviles added single shots of their own to help put the Red Sox ahead of Oakland 11-1 through 6 innings at Fenway Park.

Boston starter Clay Buchholz cruised through the first 6 innings before coming a bit unglued in the 7th when he was touched for 5 runs including Josh Reddick's 4th home run of the season with 2 on.

The Red Sox needed 5 relievers (Junichi Tazawa, Vicente Padilla, Scott Atchison, Franklin Morales, and Alfredo Aceves) to get the last 7 outs of the game.

NOTES - 5 Red Sox had multiple hit games - Aviles, Ortiz, Marlon Byrd & Dustin Pedroia had 2 each; Darnell McDonald had 3. Kevin Youkilis was a late scratch again just before the game with a lingering back issue. Nick Punto got the start at 3rd base.

Tuesday's pitching matchup features Jarrod Parker for the Athletics against Felix Doubront.
