Cook, Red Sox Spiked By O's 8-2

Aaron Cook's Red Sox debut probably could not have gone much worse than it did. Cook (pictured) was spiked in the left knee on a play at the plate in the top of the 2nd inning. Based upon what you could see on the NESN television feed, it was hard to believe that Cook didn't come out of the game at that moment. He somehow managed to stay in the game to finish the inning and then came out again for the top of the 3rd when the Orioles smacked 5 hits, scoring 7 runs to effectively put the game out of reach.

Meanwhile, Orioles starting pitcher Jason Hammel held the Sox to just 4 hits over 6.2 innings while striking out 8 and walking 1. He was charged with both Red Sox runs.

NOTES - The Red Sox have now lost 6 or their last 7 and 8 of their last 11 games against the Orioles.

Boston's offense has been almost non-existent for the better part of a week. They came into the game hitting .194 in the last 5 games. The lone bright spots today were Dustin Pedroia (2 hits) and Adrian Gonzalez who had his second 3-hit game in as many days.
