Golf Jokes Put On Hold As Sox Beat Cleveland 7-5

The linescore may not be very pretty, but Clay Buchholz delivered what the Red Sox needed against the Cleveland Indians at Fenway Park on Friday night - a win. Buchholz pitched one out into the 7th inning and was charged with 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits and 3 walks (no strikeouts) in recording his 4th win of the season.

Cleveland scored a single run in the top of the 1st but the Red Sox came back with 2 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings, and 3 more in the 5th to take a 7-1 lead. Cleveland scored 3 in the 7th when Buchholz left and another run in the 9th to make it close.

Dustin Pedroia had 3 hits and knocked in 3 runs for the Red Sox. Ryan Sweeney, playing centerfield and batting in the leadoff spot, also had 2 hits.

NOTES - Adrian Gonzalez reached base all 5 times he came to the plate including a pair of doubles.

David Ortiz left the game in the bottom of the 7th inning with what was reported to be left heel soreness. He was also in a minor car accident on Boylston Street a short time before the game on Friday.

Dustin Pedroia extended his hitting streak to a Major League-high 12 games.

The Red Sox were involved in two deals on Friday. They sold 1B/3B Jeff Larish to the Pirates, and purchased Scott Posednik from the Phillies. Posednik is expected to be headed to Pawtucket.
