Looking Around

A few quick thoughts:

-- Not once, in the entire season, have the Sox been above .500. They've reached it twice, then fallen back. If this keeps up I'm going to stop mentioning it the way people don't mention it when a pitcher has a no-hitter going. Oh wait, that's a dumb tradition. I'll mention it incessantly.

-- Paul Konerko is hitting .381, at age 36.

-- Derek Jeter is hitting. 348, at age 37.

-- Daivid Ortiz is hitting .315, down a little from before, but he's still coming up big -- and he's (at least) 36. It's been a good year for old guys so far.

-- Justin Verlander (pictured) is off to a strong start, but Detroit is struggling.

-- The Dodgers have the best record in baseball, 30-14.

-- The second wild card, right now? Still in the AL East -- the Toronto Blue Jays.

-- The 22-22 Red Sox would be in third place in either the NL West or NL Central.

-- We're six games away from Manny 2.0. His suspension will be up, and he will join the A's. It won't be dull,
