According to the Boston Herald, Dustin Pedroia will be placed on the DL with an injured thumb. Pedey had been adamant that his injury was in a different part of the thumb as his previous injury where he missed 6 games. Sources are saying that he will not need surgery, which is good, but this is still an untimely injury.

The Yankees are coming to town for a 4 game series this weekend, and Middlebrooks probably will not play in the series either. Hopefully this is a precautionary move, and Pedroia will be back soon after the All-Star Break, but it's important to remember that we have seen injuries like this in the past turn into much worse.
