2-9-13 Red Sox Catcher's News from Spring Training

With a plethora of catchers on the staff, the Red Sox GM, Ben Cherington, has announced that for now Jarrod Saltalamacchia and David Ross hold the two catching spots for the 2013 Red Sox. This leaves Ryan Lavarnway as the odd man out, as he will most likely return to Pawtucket once the season starts.
Said Cherington of Lavarnway,
Sometimes the sort of clock doesn't start exactly when the player wants to. He’s proven at the AAA level that he’s capable of helping a major league team. That’s going to happen. We just don’t know exactly when.

Lavarnway played in 46 games with the Red Sox in 2012, hitting .157 (24 for 153) with a .459 OPS. With the news that Lavarnway is minor league bound, he looks to be valuable trade bait as the Spring begins.
