Red Sox prospect Drake Britton arrested for DUI



Spring training has ended early for one member of the Red Sox organization, Drake Britton. Early Saturday morning Britton was arrested in placed in jail for Driving under the influence of alcohol. The official police report stated that was driving a maximum speed of 111 mph in a 45 mph zone. When he stopped and was approached by the police officer he attempted to give his debit card instead of his drivers license. Britton refused to take a breathalyzer test but admitted to being intoxicated before being taken to Lee County Jail. Britton was scheduled to pitch on Sunday after Ryan Dempster took the mound but was scratched from the start.
Britton was drafted into the Red Sox organization in 2007 and has pitched in the minors ever since. In 2009 he underwent Tommy John surgery and has struggled to return to previous form ever since. Last season Britton pitched for the AA affiliate the Portland Sea Dogs. HE compiled a record of 4-7 in 16 games. He had an ERA of 3.72 and struck out 76 batters in 84 2/3 innings. This spring training Britton pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up 3 hits and 5 runs. The Red Sox have released the statement saying "This is a matter that the Red Sox take very seriously, and it is being addressed. The club will not make further comment on this matter." He has been optioned to the AA club and has already left spring training.
