3 Stars of the game: Doubleheader Games 17&18

The Red Sox played a doubleheader today and instead of writing two 3 stars of the game report I thought t would be better to write just 1 article that discussed both games. I will be providing 3 stars from both games starting with the first game, a loss for the Sox, ending their 7 game win streak. After will be the stars of the second game that the Red Sox ended up losing in extra innings 5-4. Here are your 3 stars of the games:

Afternoon game:
Star 3: Lorenzo Cain
Cain once again makes the list for 3 stars of the game with a great performance in the game. He went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI, he also walked once. Cain tied the game in the 4th inning with a double that advanced a runner to third. He then scored later in the inning on a teammates single that scored 2 runs.
Star 2: David Ortiz
In Ortiz's second game back he showed his importance to the team. He went 3-4 in the game with one RBI before he was pinch run for by Pedro Ciriaco.
Star 1: Ervin Santana
Santana got the ball for the Royals in the early game and while he had a rough first inning he settled down after that. He pitched 7 innings striking out 7 Red Sox batters. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. He threw 104 pitches, 67 of them for strikes and earned the win for his team.

Night Game:
Star 3: Dustin Pedroia
While Pedroia had a good game at the plate his biggest contributions to the team were in the field tonight. Pedroia made many excellent plays at second tonight, plays that he made look routine when in reality they were far from it. On the bases Pedroia was caught stealing once but made up for it by stealing a base later in the game. He went 2-3 in the game with an RBI and he walked twice.
Star 2: Mike Napoli
Here I am again writing about how Napoli was the best player tonight. Dont get me wrong this is not in any form complaining, actually its far from it. I love the way that Napoli is playing, he came to Boston with high expectations but is surpassing them so far. Tonight Napoli went 3-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. He hit his 3rd home run of the year, a solo shot in the second inning, and tallied his 20th RBI's of the season.
Star 1: Alex Gordon
Gordon performed at the plate for the Royals going 3-5 in the night game. He hit his first home run of the season in the 5th inning, a solo shot to tie the game at 3. He scored the game winning run in the 10th inning on a walk by teammate Lorenzo Cain. Gordon scored 3 of his teams 5 runs on the night.

Its quite upsetting to see the teams 7 game winning streak but its even more upsetting to see them not come back and get a win in the second game of the doubleheader. A game that the team had in hand until Uehara gave up the tying run in the 8th and then an unexplainable 4 pitch walk with the bases loaded by Miller in the 10th. Do you agree with the stars of the games? How will the Sox respond tomorrow when they play Oakland, hopefully they respond well. Let me know what you think on twitter or in the comments below.
