3 Stars of the game: Game 16

The Boston Red Sox had a moving ceremony in Fenway Park today. They remembered the victims of the marathon bombing and honored the first responders and the police officers that were able to capture one of the bombing suspects and kill the other. After the ceremony the Red Sox still had a game to play, the first game at home that the Red Sox played since last Monday's game. On paper the game was going to be a pitchers matchup with James Shields facing off against Clay Buchholz. The pitchers did square off and they had a great pitchers duel. The Red Sox saved the best for last in the game, with a 3 run home run hit in the 8th inning. Here are your three stars of the game.

Star 3: Clay Buchholz
Buchholz is now 4-0, and is continuing to pitch amazingly. Today Buchholz got slightly lucky to actually get the win today, receiving run support in the bottom of the 8th inning, after he completed the top of the 8th inning. Buchholz gave up 8 hits over the 8 full innings he pitched allowing 2 runs. He struck out 6 and walked 1. In 104 pitches 70 were strikes and his ERA on the year increased to 0.90.
Star 2: Lorenzo Cain
Sometimes you do everything you can do to help your team and they still lose. Cain had a performance like that today going 4-4 and scoring all 3 of the Royals runs. Cain hit 2 doubles, a single and made the game even more interesting with a home run to cut the lead to 1 in the 9th inning. Cain was 99% of the Royals offense today with the only thing he didnt do was have more RBI's the only one he had was the one he hit the home run on.
Star 1: Daniel Nava
Clay Buchholz was in line to get the loss today before Daniel Nava stepped to the plate in the 8th inning. Nava then hit an almost 400 foot 3 run home run to right field to give the Red Sox a 4-2 lead. Nava went 1-2 with 3 RBI's and one run scored. He also walked in his other plate appearance.

The team has played 16 games already this year, 10% of the regular season has now been completed. In these 16 games there have been 15 members of the team that have earned the honor of being 1 of the games 3 stars. I have calculated how many points each of these players have earned and there are currently 2 tied for the role of Red Sox MVP. Mike Napoli has been outstanding this year appearing in the 3 stars 6 times already, 1 first star, 2 second star, and 3 third star totaling 10 points. Clay Buchholz has been on the 3 stars every time he has pitched this year, 4 times. 3 of these times he was named the first star of the game and today he was named the third star, also totaling 10 points.
Do you agree with who was named the 3 stars of the game today? Who do you think deserves to be the Red Sox MVP, am I right so far? Answer in the comments below or on twitter @Ryanthahawaiian.
