3 Stars of the game: Game 23

The Red Sox had to rally together after a rough start to the game tonight but again beat the Houston Astros. A horrible first inning performance by Doubront, allowing 2 runs but getting lucky to not allow more quickly worried the faithful at Fenway. The offense quickly erased these worries by scoring 4 in the second inning and with Doubront settling down. The offense was pretty evenly distributed tonight with 8 of the 9 starters getting a hit, Mike Carp being the exception. 5 different members of the team scored runs tonight, and 5 different members of the team batted runs in. Here are your 3 stars of the game:

Star 3: Stephen Drew
Drew, who has been in a very bad offensive slump may have had the game he needed to break out of this slump. He went 1-2 with 2 walks in 4 plate appearances. Drew knocked in his 4th RBI on the year and scored 2 runs tonight. Drew could have had a better game at the shortstop position but still had an overall good game.
Star 2: Will Middlebrooks
Middlebrooks, who like Drew has been in a slump, is using this series to break out of this slump. A home run yesterday got him motivated and confidant at the plate and today going 2-3 with a walk in 4 plate appearances. Middlebrooks missed hitting another home run today by just a few feet in the second inning, ending up with a wall ball double off of the monster. Middlebrooks ended up scoring 2 of the teams runs on the night and seems like he is settling into hitting in the 8 spot in the order, maybe its because the pressure is less hitting 8th that he is performing better.
Star 1: David Ortiz
We didn't have to wait long for Ortiz to extend his hitting streak to 19 games, singling in the very first inning. Ortiz has come back to the lineup and has been on fire, showing no signs of slowing down. Ortiz went 2-3 tonight in 4 plate appearances, drawing 1 walk. Ortiz had 3 RBI's tonight, bringing his total on the season to 9 already. Ortiz is playing great but he may get tomorrow off because of an early start.

The Sox go for the sweep of the Astros tomorrow. With the victory today they are 17-7 and have the best record in all of the Major Leagues. What do you think of this team right now, will it last all season? I sure hope it does, let me know what you think in the comments below or on twitter @ryanthahawaiian.
