Bats help settle down Doubront as Sox top Astros

David Ortiz drove in 3 runs and Felix Doubront pitched into the 7th inning to help the Red Sox beat the Houston Astros 8-4 at Fenway Park.

Ortiz (pictured) drove in 2 runs with an RBI single in a 4-run 2nd inning and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the 4th. He's hitting a scorching .519 since his return off the disabled list one week ago.

Felix Doubront got off to a very shaky start; his 1st inning included a lead-off single, 3 walks, a hit batsman, and a wild pitch. Perhaps miraculously, the Astros only had a 2-0 lead when the Red Sox came to bat in the bottom of the opening frame.

Doubront settled down after that going 6.2 innings in which he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 8.

The Boston offense rapped out a dozen hits. In addition to the pair by Ortiz, three other players had multi-hit games - Daniel Nava, Dustin Pedroia and Will Middlebrooks.

Boston ended up using 5 pitchers. Junichi Tazawa got the final out of the 7th inning; he was followed by Daniel Bard in the top of the 8th. He walked the 1st two batters he faced which prompted an immediate switch by John Farrell who brought in Alex Wilson. Andrew Miller, who looked completely different as a result of a serious haircut, tossed a 1-2-3 9th inning to seal the win.
