Sox rally past Oakland to take another series

David Ortiz (pictured) figured prominently in a pair of 3-run innings for the Red Sox as they came from behind to beat the Oakland Athletics 6-5 at Fenway Park on Wednesday afternoon.

With the Sox trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning, Ortiz led off with a Wall Ball double and ultimately came around to score on a double by Mike Napoli. His RBI single in the 5th inning knocked Oakland starting pitcher Brett Anderson out of the game.

Ortiz was one of 3 Red Sox players with multi-hit games; Dustin Pedroia and Daniel Nava also contributed a pair of hits to the Red Sox 10-hit attack.

Jon Lester wasn't necessarily sharp - he walked a season-high 6 in 5.2 innings, but he picked up the win to improve to 4-0. He gave up 6 hits including a 3-run homer by Chris Young while striking out 5. Andrew Bailey racked up his 5th save of the season striking out the side in a 1-2-3 9th inning.

NOTES - The win gave the Red Sox another series victory, their 5th of the 2013 season. * Right-handed pitcher Joel Hanrahan is slated to pitch in a rehap stint for AAA Pawtucket on Friday night. * Reliever Daniel Bard returned to the Red Sox bullpen Wednesday. It's expected he will work out of the bullpen in earlier, rather than later, innings.
