Stephen Drew cleared for game action

Its been almost a month since Stephen Drew was hit in the head by a pitch in a spring training game. The injury, which didn't seem serious at the time became a concern for the team when Drew started to experience concussion symptoms, and was then removed from all baseball activities. Since then Drew was cleared for baseball activities but had not been cleared until earlier today to return to game action. Drew is currently on the 7-Day DL and is scheduled to come off it on Wednesday. While Drew was cleared for game action it does not mean that he will immediately be with the team in Boston, instead he will spend more time in Ft. Myers at extended spring training. In the absence of Drew, rookie Jose Iglesias will be trying to do everything he can to keep the starting job. Iglesias started off the season impressively with a 3-5 outing with an RBI and scoring a run. He also made a few good plays in the field and contributed to turning a double play. While it seems like Iglesias could prove to be a great starter at the SS position for the team it will most likely be Drews job when he is ready to join the club after extended spring training.
