Road trippin'

As I'm sure you all know already the Red Sox ended their road trip last night in Chicago with a 6-2 victory over the White Sox. They ended their longest road trip of the young season on a win and coming home after taking 6-3 on the road. While on the road during May, the Sox are 8-6 and are definitely looking forward to a six game home-stand back at Fenway.

With the win in Chi-town last night Clay Buchholz earned his 7th victory of the year in an outing that was not his best. Buchholz only gave up one run which lowered his ERA to 1.73, but threw 113 pitches, walked 3 and only struck-out 4 batters. Just a so so outing for the strong righty, he had a tough time starting out each inning allowing the lead off batters to reach in five of the first six innings. The shaky outing from Clay just goes to show how well he is pitching this year still being able to get the win even without his best stuff.

If you missed Koji Uehara coming off the field last night after having a perfect 8th inning with two strikeouts you need to Youtube that ASAP. You wouldn't think Uehara is a high intensity guy but when he comes off that mound he is a high-fiving machine and last night was hilarious. Great to have a guy who loves his job, does it very well, and interacts well with his teammates.

The end of the Sox 9 game road trip also brought the return of closer Andrew Bailey. Bailey was activated from the DL on Monday and was his first appearance since April 28th. Although it was not a save situation John Farrell wanted to get Bailey some work on the mound. Besides giving up a two out home run to Paul Konerko, Bailey looked pretty good and hopefully he can gain some momentum and become stronger out of the bullpen.

Red Sox start a 6 game home-stand tonight against the Indians for 4 games, followed by two games against the Philadelphia Phillies. Boston will end the Month of May on the road in Philly and New York against the Yankees. These next two weeks of May will be a good/tough test for the Red Sox who are hoping to carry a win streak into June.
