Pedroia takes on Mr. October

I think all Red Sox Lifer’s would agree Dustin Pedroria is a confident player. Maybe even a little cocky. Call it Napoleon complex if you like.

Before Friday night’s game at Yankee Stadium, Pedroia noticed Yankees Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson standing near the batting cage. According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Sox dimunitive second baseman strode over to Jackson and proclaimed, "Barry Bonds, Dustin Pedroia and Reggie Jackson, the top three players in Arizona State history."

Someone asked Pedroia how he would rank the top three. He immediately shot back, "Kind of a coin flip between the first two," referring to Bonds and himself - and not Jackson.

How did “Mr. October” respond? “I’m just happy to be in the top five.”

Bravado is one thing, but like Reggie, you got to back up. Pedroia went 5-13 in the series with two runs scored as the Red Sox took two of three from the Yankees to remain atop the AL East.

File under: It ain't braggin' if it's true.
