3 Stars of the Game: Game 98

It seems fitting that the Red Sox would start the second half of the season against the New York Yankees, and its fitting that they would continue their dominance with a 4-2 win. The team was lead by a quick start by Ellsbury, and then also by dominant pitching, both from their starter, Doubront and then the bullpen. Here are the 3 stars of the game.

Star 3: Jacoby Ellsbury
The Red Sox got off to a very quick start in the first inning, when Jacoby Ellsbury hit a home run in the first at bat for the Red Sox. He went 2-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. The home run he hit was his 4th of the season and his 34th RBI of the year.
Star 2: Jonny Gomes
Gomes was like a shark who smelt blood in the water last night, pouncing all over Pettitte in the second inning with a runner on base. Gomes went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored last night. He hit a 2 run home run in the 2nd inning, his 7th of the season. He also hit a double, his 12th of the year.
Star 1: Felix Doubront
Doubront improved to 7-3 on the season with a consistent 6.1 inning performance. He allowed only 3 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 5 and walked 3. He threw 93 pitches, with 59 of them being strikes.

The Red Sox started the second half of the season on a very high note, its always a morale boost when you can beat the Yankees, and the home fans are always loud and let you know they appreciate it as well. The Sox now have 2 more games this weekend against the Yannkees and will look to extend their lead in the AL East over them even more. What do you think the key is for the Sox to win the series and possibly sweep the Yankees this weekend? Leave your answer in the comments section or tell me on twitter @RyanMacleod15.
