Jonny Gomes lifted his sixth home run of the season into the Monster seats in the bottom of the ninth inning to push the Red Sox past the San Diego Padres 2-1 at Fenway Park. Pinch hitting for Brandon Snyder, Gomes gave the Sox their eighth walk off win of the season.

Koji Uehara got the win in relief courtesy of a 1-2-3 top of the ninth.

Red Sox starter Jon Lester (pictured) was outstanding going 7 innings and allowing one run on six hits and a walk while striking out five. Of the 102 pitches he threw, 71 were for strikes.

San Diego jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Lester with three hits including an RBI base knock by Kyle Blanks. The Red Sox tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled home Mike Carp.

Dustin Pedroia and Carp each had two hits for Boston; Jacoby Ellsbury extended his hitting streak to thirteen games.
