The Royals scored runs in each of the first three innings off Red Sox starter John Lackey and held on to beat Boston 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium. The Red Sox lost three of the four games to Kansas City.

Despite a bit of a shaky start, Lackey (pictured) managed to settle down, retiring fourteen of the last fifteen batters he faced. He pitched through the seventh inning giving up seven hits and two walks while striking out five.

The Red Sox made things close with three runs off Kansas City starter James Shields. Shane Victorino scored on an error in the first inning and Ryan Lavarnway drove in two with a single in the top of the sixth.
