This doesn’t happen too often in any sport, where the two best teams through the regular season end up playing for the championship. But for the first time since 1999, the World Series will get just that.

The Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals each finished at 97-65.

The Cardinals and Red Sox have met three times in the World Series (1946, 1967 and 2004). The Cardinals prevailed in seven games in the first two and the Sox swept the Cards in '04 for their first World Series win in 86 years.

Expect this series to be more like 1967 and less like 2004. Both teams are evenly matched with solid starting pitching, good bullpens, balanced offenses and exceptional defense.

The World Series begins tonight, the duckboats are warming up and the road to redemption is almost complete.

What say you, Red Sox Lifer's?
