According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Minnesota Twins have shown a preliminary interest in signing Jarrod Saltalamacchia after moving Joe Mauer to 1st base. The Twins are also said to be interested in free agent A.J. Pierzynski and are said to have several meetings with players agents lined up at the General Managers winter meetings.

As far as catchers go, Saltalamachia is one of the best free agents on the market and is coming off a personal best year. And the Twins need a catcher after moving Joe Mauer to 1st base, so if the Twins decide to seriously pursue Saltalamacchia, then it would be a good match. This assuming that the Red Sox aren't interested in bringing him back. No guarantees, but I think the Red Sox will make a conscious effort to re-sign Salty. He was a big part of getting us to the playoffs, but he disappeared once to playoffs started. Still, popular sentiment on Salty wants to see him back in a Red Sox uniform.
