According to Over the Monster, Tim Hudson is close to signing with the San Francisco Giants. This makes Hudson the 2nd Red Sox target to sign elsewhere today, assuming this deal goes through, after Carlos Ruiz signed a 3 year, $26 million contract with the Phillies earlier today (read more here). Tim Hudson's deal is worth 2 years and $23 million, according to Over the Monster, and probably not the biggest loss in terms of pitching. We've got plenty of starting pitching, and anything more than a 1-year deal would be too much of a risk given that Hudson is 37 years of age.

Do we really need him? No, not really, as I mentioned above. We've got a starting rotation headache as is, with 6 starters on the roster, so this isn't the worst thing to happen as far as losing out goes. Thoughts? Let me know on Twitter or leave a comment.
