As we reported this morning, AJ Pierzynski is the newest member of the Red Sox. And that means Jarrod Saltalamacchia is on his way out. To Miami, apparently. Have fun losing down there, Salty. But AJ Pierzynski is a good fit for the Red Sox, and I'll give you 3 reasons why we're not losing anything.

1. They had similar numbers at the plate: AJ Pierzynski had a slash line of .272/.295/.425 with 17 home runs and 70 RBI's, according to ESPN so we're really not losing anything production wise. We actually gain a little because his home runs and RBI's were slightly better than Salty's

2. Pierzynski plays better defense: Yep, AJ is a defensive upgrade over Salty. He only made 2 errors all season as opposed to 6 for Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Plus, AJ Pierzynski has a better career fielding percentage (.995 against .994 for Salty), so that would be a huge plus for the Sox. And I don't think Pierzynski will make rash decisions like Salty did in the World Series like Salty did.

3. He fits the clubhouse chemistry: He'll work well with David Ross and Ryan Lavarnway, as well as with everyone else in the clubhouse. I get the feeling Pierzynski would have been right on the beard bandwagon last season. Plus, he's already got 1 ring with the White Sox, so he knows what it takes to win.

What do you guys think? Is AJ a good signing, or should we have kept Salty? Let me know on Twitter or leave a comment below.
