Breaking News - Sox acquire Jonathan Herrera

Multiple sources are confirming the Red Sox have acquired infield Jonathan Herrera from the Colorado Rockies for Franklin Morales and prospect Chris Martin.

Herrera played 2nd, 3rd, shortstop and left field for the Rockies in 2013. He hit .292/.336/.364 with 1 home run and 16 RBI's in 81 games for the Rockies in 2013.

Barring a surprise move, speculation is that this likely means the end of the Stephen Drew era for the Red Sox who will likely go with a combination of Will Middlebrooks, Xander Bogaerts and Herrera on the left side of the infield.

Morales began his major league career with the Rockies in 2007 before being acquired by Boston in May 2011. In his three years with the Sox, Morales had a 6-7 record with a 3.90 ERA.

Chris Martin had been drafted by the Tigers and Rockies but ultimately entered pro ball with an independent team in 2010. He signed a minor league deal with Boston in 2011.
