Pitching in what had been John Lackey's spot in the rotation, Ranaudo (pictured) allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two. His first strikeout victim was Derek Jeter.

The Red Sox scored twice in the bottom of the third against Chris Capuano on an RBI double by Dustin Pedroia and an RBI single by David Ortiz. For Pedroia it was one of two hits on the night.

Koji Uehara pitched a clean ninth inning for his 21st save of the season.
