The Red Sox have announced that right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with what's being called shoulder tendinitis. Lefty Robbie Ross Jr. has been recalled from Pawtucket.

Speaking this afternoon on WEEI on the Dale & Holley program, Red Sox manager John Farrell said that Masterson had been examined by the Oakland A's team physician after his most recent start and some inflammation had been found.

The Sox are in Seattle tonight as they continue their West Coast trip. It's expected Steven Wright will take Masterson's spot in the rotation for Sunday's game.
