According to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe the Red Sox have designated relief pitcher Edward Mujica for assignment.

Early speculation is that Matt Barnes, recently moved to the bullpen in AAA Pawtucket, will be called up to take Mujica's roster spot.

As noted in the tweet above, Mujica was 1-1 with a 4.61 ERA for the Red Sox in 11 games this season including last night's loss to Tampa Bay at Fenway Park. Though he had saved 41 games for the St. Louis Cardinals as recently as 2013, he struggled at times to get outs in late relief situations and the Fenway Faithful never really warmed up to him.
