The Red Sox were held in check for six innings by Tigers starting pitcher Alfredo Simon in a 5-1 loss to Detroit at Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon.

Steven Wright (am I the only one who thinks he is clearly not ready for the big leagues?) allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out four as his record fell to 3-4.

The only Red Sox run came in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI ground out by Mookie Betts.

Hanley Ramirez had two hits in the loss; Dustin Pedroia was out of the lineup once again having been placed on the 15-day DL just prior to the game with lingering right hamstring issues.
