Kyle Kendrick, making a spot start in place of the injured Steven Wright, lasted just four innings. He was charged with the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits, one of which was a ridiculous home run by Manny Machado that clocked in as the longest by a visiting player since the introduction of Statcast.

Hanley Ramirez and Josh Rutledge each had two hits for Boston in the loss. Dustin Pedroia (pictured) hit his first home run of the year in the bottom of the third inning.
