Sox Lose In Extras To Orioles 6-4

Chris Davis's RBI single off Franklin Morales in the top of the 13th inning scored Matt Wieters as the Orioles beat Boston 6-4 at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox got on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Cody Ross tripled and ended up scoring on a passed ball by Ronny Paulino. Baltimore got the run back in the top of the 3rd on a lead-off home run by Mark Reynolds off Red Sox starter Jon Lester.

Lester pitched 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. He threw 99 pitches, 60 of which were strikes.

Adrian Gonzalez (3) and Dustin Pedroia (2) each had multi-hit games for Boston.

NOTES - The Red Sox bullpen had been exceptionally sharp until the 13th. Rich Hill, Matt Albers, Alfredo Aceves, and Franklin Morales threw 5.1 innings of three-hit baseball. Aceves recorded 6 strikeouts in his 2.2 innings of relief.

Aaron Cook will make his 2012 debut for the Sox tomorrow pitching against Jason Hamel; it will be Clay Buchholz taking on Tommy Hunter in Sunday's series finale.

The Red Sox were virtually unanimous in their outpouring of concern and respect toward Yankees closer Mariano Rivera who tore the ACL in his right knee prior to the game against the Royals in Kansas City Thursday.

Daisuke Matsuzaka's next minor league rehab start has been pushed back to Monday.
