Buchholz Sharp As Sox Top Jays 7-2

Daniel Nava banged out 4 hits, David Ortiz (pictured) had a pair including his 13th home run of the season, and Clay Buchholz pitched 8 strong innings as the Red Sox opened a 3-game series with a 7-2 win over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Boston rapped out 15 hits; in addition to Nava and Ortiz, Adrian Gonzalez had 3 hits and Ryan Sweeney added 2. Only Jarrod Saltalamacchia was held hitless.

Buchholz was in command for virtually the entire game. He struck out 7 while walking only 2. With the win his record improves to 5-2. More importantly, his ERA dropped from 7.19 to 6.58.

NOTES - The streaking Sox have now won won 5 of their last 7 and 15 of their last 21 games.

David Ortiz now has 30 career home runs at the Rogers Centre. His average is up to .323.
