Definitely Maybe

In retrospect, it makes sense that Ben Cherington would throw water on the Knobler report about Kevin Youkilis, because it was so definitive.
DKnobler @DKnobler
Red Sox are telling teams they definitely intend to trade Youkilis.
I could repeat that, emphasizing the strong words, but it would be nearly all of them -- "telling teams they definitely intend to trade" sounds like a fire sale. Cherington may be thinking about moving Youk, but he's not going to trade a cornerstone of the Red Sox offense for several years without getting something good in return.

So instead, he says:
"Some teams have checked in on him. We haven’t told any teams we plan to trade him. It’s our job to listen if teams have interest."
Yep, it's his job to listen.  In other words, Cherington never says never. And he shouldn't.

Or he's lying. I'm not he saying he is lying. I'm just saying we can't rule it out.

Do you suppose anyone is calling the Dodgers to check in on Matt Kemp? But I digress.

Anyway, it's all OK, because Youk is unfazed, Ian Browne says.

Finally, we must congratulate Johan Santana (pictured) for throwing the first no-hitter in Mets history. The Mets have been a team for 50 years. Well done.
