An Ace May Be Starting To Emerge

Dustin Pedroia's 2-run homer into the Monster in the bottom of the 6th inning to snap a 2-2 tie and help Clay Buchholz earn his 9th win of the season as the Red Sox beat the Max Scherzer and the Detroit Tigers 7-3 at Fenway Park.

Buchholz went 8 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits; he walked 2 and struck out 4. In his last 9 starts going back to May 27, Buchholz is 5-1 with an ERA under 3. While Red Sox Nation worries about what's wrong with Jon Lester and whether or not Josh Beckett will be traded before tomorrow's deadline, Clay Buchholz has emerged as the ace of the staff over the past two months.

Vicente Padilla came on in the 9th to close things out in a non-save situation.

Adrian Gonzalez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each had a pair of hits; Will Middlebrooks, quietly putting together a rookie-of-the-year caliber season, hit his 11th home run of the year in the bottom of the 8th with a man on.
