Apparently the Whole Team Didn't Get the Memo

Make no mistake about it - this is an important series for the Red Sox. And to drop the 1st game of a 3-game set in the Bronx against the Yankees with 60-something games left on the schedule was not supposed to be part of the plan.

The Yankees pounded out 10 hits in a resounding 10-3 win over the Red Sox. The Red Sox slammed three home runs off Yankee starter Phil Hughes, including a 1st inning blast by Dustin Pedroia (pictured), but starting pitcher Aaron Cook struggled in his 4 innings of work allowing 6 runs on 7 hits.

Carl Crawford and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit the other home runs for Boston. The Yankees countered with three of their own. Raul Ibanez and Curtis Martin each hit one with a man on; Curtis Granderson added a grand slam off reliever Mark Melancon in the bottom of the 8th to put the game out of reach.
