Eating a Little Crow

I am quite sure I would remind you of this if it went the other way, so I feel duty-bound to mention it.

The Red Sox Will Win the AL East

There it is, my prediction, in a headline and everything for posterity and no deniability. I made a good faith effort to talk myself out of it using shallow, anecdotal analysis. But now that's my story.
Oh well, I wasn't the only one to pick them -- just one of the very, very few.

The crow I have to eat is pretty minor compared to Bobby Valentin's fate. In general I agree with JR.  He faced long odds. Most of his mistakes would not be memorable if things turned out better, but instead, every little thing became a big thing. I also hope he bounces back.

But one thing is certain, and Bobby knew it as well as anyone -- the Sox had to fire him. If they kept him, the story for the entire winter would have been "Why did they keep Valentine?' This is a team that worries what people say. As much as they would rather not, as much as they say it's all about baseball decisions -- they hear the chatter.

Which is not to say they read Red Sox Life (we hope they do), but you did, and let me also say thanks for that.

My dinner. Unless I just force myself to watch the movie.
