Napoli To Boston, Closer Brian Wilson Wants in Too

ESPN-The Boston Red Sox on Monday agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract with free-agent first baseman/catcher Mike Napoli, pending a physical, a baseball source with direct knowledge of the negotiations told ESPNDallas.com.

I don't really know what to take of this signing. When looking at the stats, $13 million a year for a .270 hitter is a little bit too much, but then again he has batted .306 lifetime at Fenway, so we can add that to the mix. We needed a first baseman and Napoli fills that void. He had his best year in 2011 when he batted .320 with 30 homers and 75 RBIs so the guy has the capability to hit the ball well. The only thing that worries me is what Napoli will we get, the Sox are famous for their long, expensive contracts in which players dont live up to expectations, hopefully Napoli proves us wrong.

Also, news this weekend was that newly free agent Brian Wilson, other wise known as the man with the beard and Massachusetts/ New Hampshire native, is interested in playing for Boston. Wilson just came off of his 2nd Tommy John surgery so there is some risk involved, but personally I would love the  "The Beard" to come to Boston. He could add some depth to our bullpen and if the Sox plummet like last year, he can add some comic relief with his interviews. He would be expected anywhere from $6.8 million plus, and the Sox have the money.
Brian Wilson is a very interesting man, he is seen below in a tuxedo spandex suit at the ESPYs
