Papi drops a bomb & Nava hits a bomb as Sox beat Royals

Daniel Nava's 3-run blast in the bottom of the 8th inning carried the Red Sox to a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals at a very emotional Fenway Park. Trailing 2-1 heading into the 8th, Jonny Gomes led off with a Wall Ball Double and two batters later he advanced to 3rd on a David Ortiz double play ground out. Mike Napoli walked, and then Nava worked his magic.

Clay Buchholz went 8 strong innings allowing 2 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. Andrew Bailey allowed a solo home run in the top of the 9th but closed the door for the save.

Making his first appearance in 2013 after a rehab stint with AAA Pawtucket,  Ortiz had two singles and an RBI in the win. At the conclusion of a very emotional pre-game ceremony, he addressed the crowd with some rather colorful language which is sure to be a YouTube favorite. Just Google "Ortiz F-bomb."

The game was the first in Fenway for the Red Sox in the aftermath of the Patriots Day bombings; it came on the heels of the capture of the 2nd suspect in the attack.  In addition to a stirring pre-game ceremony, the players wore special home jerseys with "Boston" replacing the traditional "Red Sox" on the front.
