2013 All-Star teams announced: Ortiz, Buchholz and Pedroia get the call

The American League and National League All-Star teams have been announced. The starters were selected by fan votes. Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was voted in as the AL starting DH and starting pitcher Clay Buchholz was also named to the starting rotation but will likely be replaced due to injury. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia will be an alternate.

The rest of the team is selected by the players and the All-Star managers, San Francisco’s Bruce Bochy and Detroits’s Jim Leyland.

Baltimore will have three starters with St. Louis, Cincinnati and Colorado each having two players picked by fans.

A noticeable exception was the exclusion of the Dodgers Cuban sensation Yasiel Puig. Apparently NL manager Bochy didn’t think 30 big league games makes an all-star. Let the debate begin.

Orioles first baseman Chris Davis was the leading vote-getter for the AL and Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina led the NL.

The All-Star game will be played July 16 at Citi Field in New York. The Home Run Derby will be played the day before, the Futures Game the day before that.
