RSL Poll: Where are the fans?

The Red Sox are 79-55 this season, 2 1/2 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. After last years debacle in which the team finished with just 69 wins, Boston looks playoff bound.

But where are the fans?

As Nick Carfardo pointed out Thursday's Boston Globe, attendance this season is down. Attendance for Wednesday night's game was below 32,000, well short of a sellout.

The Red Sox have just 20 sellouts all season and are down about 2,900 fans per game from last year. Before last night's comeback win against division rival the Orioles, the Red Sox were advertising $20 tickets.

With the Sox in a tight pennant race, providing dramatic wins, fielding a likable group of clutch players and already 10 wins above last years record, what gives Red Sox Nation?
