Game 139: Tigers at Red Sox - Potential ALCS preview on Labor Day

A potential ALCS preview takes center stage on Labor Day as the Detroit Tigers visit the Boston Red Sox, two of the top teams in the American League. Detroit (80-57) leads the AL Central by 7.5 games over the Indians. Boston (82-56) has a 5.5 game lead over Tampa Bay in the AL East. Both teams are poised to make the postseason and could be on a collision course to battle it out for spot in the World Series.

This afternoon’s game will pit John Lackey (8-11, 3.19 ERA) against Doug Fister (11-7, 3.81). Here is the Red Sox lineup today (first pitch – 1:35 pm EDT):

Reigning Triple Crown Winner Miguel Cabrera is out of the Tigers’ lineup for the third straight day with an abdominal strain. It is likely that he will play at some point in this series.
