With the starting pitching in shambles recently, and with David Price added to the 10-day injured list with a left wrist issue on Thursday, Sale's performance against the Angels was precisely what the Red Sox needed.

Sale went eight innings and struck out 13 as Boston blanked the Angels 3-0 at Fenway Park.

It was a vintage Sale performance with no walks and just two hits, with a fastball that hit 98 and off-speed pitches that darted every which way.

Sam Travis and Sandy Leon supplied all the runs the Red Sox needed via the long ball. Travis hit a two-run shot in the second and Leon added his in the fifth.
