Sox general manager Ben Cherington said earlier today the team is looking for more than one "low-cost" starting pitcher who will enter a competition for the final two starter spots in spring training.

This is instructive, to me. I keep running down tempting rumors and trying to gauge potential Sox-Yankee bidding wars, but Mr. Cherington has been consistent. He wants pitchers, fairly young pitchers (sorry, Wake), and inexpensive pitchers. Guys with something to prove.
