Has Papi Changed His Stroke?

At the end of yesterday's game, the threat of a walkoff hung heavy in the ninth inning. Tampa defused it by intentionally walking David Ortiz to face Cody Ross (who had gone 2 for 3, and may have been robbed by bad calls at the end).

The conditions were made to order for Ortiz heroics. But maybe not the usual kind.

We have barely noticed, because his average has been great, but the notoriously slow-starting Big Papi has only one home run. What he has is 10 RBIs (ahead of pace), and he's hitting a crazy .410, after being at .444 going into yesterday's game.

Has he ever had a period of such success with only one long ball? Not that I can see, or recall.

Aging sluggers tend to slack in average (in everything, really), but make it up for it in home run production. If Ortiz did the opposite, hitting for average while having fewer dingers, that would be fine. The Sox have plenty of long ball hitters.
