Boyd: Sox Were Racist; Globe: Sox Are Liars

The Sox got double-whammied in the press today today. Oil Can Boyd, promoting his book, appeared on Dennis and Callahan and said the Sox were bigoted. He singled out Wade Boggs.

Boyd's problems with Boggs have been well publicized. Asked if he thought Boggs was a bigot, Boyd said: "I don't think it, I know it. He was raised like that. His daddy was. I've spoken with his dad. His dad was. The boy was raised like that. All of it aint his fault. Huh. All of it ain't his fault. It's inherited. It's passed down."

Added Boyd: "He used the [N word] every day. Every day. … Every day it come out of his mouth. Every day. Yeah, he talked about just like it wasn't [expletive], like it was common talk. He learned that. That's not uncommon for a kid that grew up in Florida."

Nice touch, WEEI, leaving in the N word and censoring "expletive." Stay classy.

I'm sure we'll hear from Boggs on this soon.

On a much lighter but more current note, the Globe says the sellout streak is fake because it's buttressed by ticket giveaways.

The Sox embrace an alternate definition that permits them to declare a game sold out even if hundreds of tickets go unsold but others are distributed for free.

“I can understand the confusion,’’ said Sam Kennedy, the team’s executive vice president. “But we operate by a definition that is commonly practiced throughout Major League Baseball and professional sports.’’

At least the Globe is whacking management for once, not current players. I'll bet this item is getting some snickers in the clubhouse.
