Lead Linings

Yesterday morning I was listening to WEEI -- a mixed blessing, shall we say, on most days. But one of the hosts, and I apologize for not knowing which one, offered this.
The Red Sox lead the league in silver linings.
Yes. Exactly. That's what's maddening about this team. We can celebrate Darnell McDonald for his team spirit (and I still intend to), but then we have to face the fact that a non-pitcher got the win.

Swept at home. What more can one say?

Another consistent theme on talk radio is the 40 game threshold. A few weeks ago, this was brought up in the content of Bobby Valentine. Now it's in the context of the whole team.

The Sox are 11-16. They have to go 9-4 in their next 13 games to be .500 at the 40 game mark.

After that, they have to go 75-47 to get to 95 wins. Add those together, and it's 84-51 --  33 games above .500

Not the sort of conversation we should be having on May 7. But here we are, with weighty thoughts.
