Sox Offense - It's Alive!!!

The Red Sox got a 14-hit outburst from the offense, and 7 innings of 3-hit, 2-run pitching from starter Felix Doubront en route to a 10-2 win over the Miami Marlins. The top four hitters in the Boston lineup were lethal - each had at least 2 hits including the 15th home run of the season for David Ortiz who started the game at first base. Adrian Gonzalez, who started in right before moving back to 1st, had 3 hits. Mike Aviles and Nick Punto, who came into the game as a pinch hitter for Doubront in the 8th, each had a pair of hits as well.

Doubront pitched through the 7th inning for the 1st time all season in winning his 7th game of the season. His ERA dropped to 4.17 (he started the game at 4.34); he struck out 9 and walked just 1.

The win was just Boston's 3rd in their last 10 games but assured a win of the interleague series with the Marlins. It's their 1st series win since beating the Blue Jays twice in three games at the beginning of the month.

The Red Sox have Thursday off in advance of a 3-game weekend series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
